I Am Shauna Rae doesn’t debut until January 11, but it’s pretty clear that fans of the show are quite excited for its premiere.

Whenever TLC posts promos of the program on its social media channels, it gets quite a bit of great feedback. Right at the top of the list as to why people are excited, is because they feel like the show fits with what the network used to be.

More than a few people feel like TLC has wandered away from its mission these days. The network has been more about reality television than helping viewers learn anything.

It’s not the only network to do that over the last few years. The History Channel doesn’t focus that much on history anymore.

Still, viewers have been getting a bit more annoyed lately at TLC. That’s why they are optimistic that this new program is going to allow the channel to go back to its roots.

I Am Shauna Rae Brings TLC Network Back Home

The network posted a new promo for the January premiere and fans were more than a little excited after watching the footage on Instagram.

“THIS is what TLC used to be all about!!!” One fan happy wrote. “Can’t wait to watch & learn & support.”

Another made their comment a bit of a request to TLC.

“More shows like this that bring awareness and knowledges about specific conditions,” they wrote.

“Finally something teachable that you can learn from,” another added. “I forgot TLC was “The Learning Channel” with all the ridiculous amount of 90 day fiancé. It’s turned into an MTVjr.”

“Bout time we have something to learn about,” yet another follower posted on the Instagram page’s comments. “Now all TLC needs to do is be rid of sister wives!!”

What Can Viewers Learn?

While this new program will technically be another reality show, it will have more coverage of a real-life person going through real-life issues. It doesn’t appear as though the I Am Shauna Rae star will be getting set up with men just to see what happens.

The person at the center of the new show is in fact, named Shauna Rae.

While she looks like she might be eight or nine years old at the oldest, she’s actually 22.

It turns out that this new reality star developed a kind of brain cancer when she was just a baby. Treatment for that cancer negatively affected her pituitary gland and that in turn, greatly stunted her growth.

The grown adult now stands at just 3 feet 10 inches tall.

The show will follow her around as she tries to do things that normal 20-year-olds do, including going to bars and trying to have success in their dating lives. While this definitely still falls in the reality television folder, it’s clear that fans are happy that TLC is going back to its roots in actually teaching something with I Am Shauna Rae.
