With the long-anticipated premiere of 1000-Lb Sisters season 6 just around the corner, Amy Slaton’s wild new life has become a subject of interest and concern. The unscripted series, which premiered in 2020, centers on the weight-loss journeys of 36-year-old Amy and her 37-year-old sister, Tammy Slaton. Amy once weighed over 400 pounds, and she desperately wanted to have children, but she knew she couldn’t do so at her age.

After receiving bariatric surgery and losing 125 pounds, Amy and her husband at the time, Michael Halterman, went on to have two healthy boys. Though Michael and Amy seemed to be made for each other, during 1000-lb Sisters season 5, the marriage fell apart, and Amy is now a single mother of two little boys. With the new season on the horizon, Amy’s wild new lifestyle has come under the harsh glare of the public eye.

Amy and Michael’s relationship began in their hometown of Dixon, Kentucky, when Amy was eight years old, and Michael was 12. Despite the age difference, Amy admitted to harboring a crush on Michael, but it wasn’t until Michael was 19 years old and Amy was a high school sophomore that they reconnected. Michael, characterized as a laid-back country guy, was the picture of a devoted husband during the first few seasons of 1000-lb Sisters.

Everything changed after Amy and Michael’s children, Gage and Glenn Halterman, were born. Overwhelmed with caring for two young children, Amy felt that she wasn’t getting enough support from her husband. After four years of marriage and two children together, the couple announced their divorce in 2023. Interestingly, Amy’s older sister, Amanda Halterman, was married to Michael’s brother, Jason Halterman, but they divorced several years before.
