Tammy Slaton has offered some insight into how a simple diet change has helped her continue her quest of getting down to a healthy weight.
Sometimes it’s the little things that make all of the difference. For Tammy Slaton, one small change to her diet has given her a big boost in confidence through her weight loss journey. When asked if she still drinks up to 12 cans of soda, Tammy confidently says that she does not. “I don’t drink sodies that often anymore,” Tammy shared with fans in a November 29 TikTok video. “I mean, maybe two 12-ounce cans a day, sometimes not even that. Sometimes just one, sometimes not at all.”
Tammy then revealed some alternatives to sugary soft drinks that she’s taken a liking to. “If I do drink something else it’s tea. Diet tea or sugar-free Gatorades,” she explained. “I do like drinking Crystal Light packets, stuff like that sometimes … but plain ordinary water.”
Why Tammy Slaton Enacted Her Diet Change
In the first season of 1000-Lb. Sisters, Tammy and her sister, Amy Slaton, told a dietitian that they drink “eight to 12 [cans]” of soda every day. Amy attempted to justify their consumption by stating that the pair were only drinking diet soda.
“Our mom told us when we were younger, if we ate sugar, you drink a Diet Coke afterwards and it’ll cancel out the sugar,” Amy told the specialist. When asked whether or not she still believes that, Amy was quick to respond. “I did when I was a kid.”
When confronted with the idea of cutting down to just a single can of soda a day, the sisters appeared to be in disbelief. But in just three short years, a switch has certainly been flipped. But the road to weight loss hasn’t always been a smooth ride.
Tammy Slaton ‘Wised Up’ Regarding Weight Loss
For Tammy, her weight loss journey has been filled with its fair share of ups and downs. Even when faced with the prognosis of a grim future if her weight wasn’t addressed, Tammy still struggled to shed the pounds.
In order to qualify for weight loss surgery, Tammy needed to lose weight on her. In fact, she needed to drop from 717 lbs. to 550 lbs. in order to qualify for weight loss surgery. After hard work and dedication surprised herself when made it down to 534 lbs.
“When I got on the scale and I saw the scale was at 534.7, I kinda stopped breathing for a second,” Tammy said during a Feb. 7 episode. “I’m like 14 lbs. under my goal weight. From over 700, that’s a huge drop.”
“I wised up and got my surgery,” Tammy told People in June 2023. “I was able to make my lungs strong enough to get my [tracheotomy tube for breathing] out, and then recently the doctor cleared me to be off my oxygen machine during the daytime. Now I only wear my oxygen at night, along with my BiPap machine. I monitor my oxygen levels throughout the day and keep my machine on hand in case I need it.”
